Rivalling the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape as the top wine produced here, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Adrastee comes all from old Grenache vines planted in the pebbly strewn soils of La Crau, on the eastern end of the appellation. It got a big “Wow” in the notes and dishes out jaw-droppingly good notes of black raspberry, creamy licorice, toasted spice and graphite that continue to change in the glass. Full-bodied, layered and fabulously concentrated, with rock-solid underlying structure, this is blockbuster stuff that should not be missed.
